Wildlife around RoFawr
In season fishing can be arranged as well as golf
and riding. The area surrounding RoFawr has been designated a Site
of Special Scientific Interest and there is an abundance of wildlife
in the area. Buzzards fly overhead and the Red Kite has found its
way back here. Badgers and deer are frequently to be found as you
drive through the woods and the swans nest on the river every year. |
Swans
Swans can be seen on the river Towy which flows along the border
of RoFawr Farm. Please read more about them by clicking on the image.

Tree
sparrows
Although very rare, we are lucky to have tree sparrows nesting
in the woods of RoFawr. You may see them as you explore the grounds,
or take a walk to the nearby Aberglasney Gardens. |
|
Kingfishers
Take a walk or a picnic along the river, and you are almost certain
to see kingfishers darting along the banks. We can show you where
they like to fish too.

|
Red
kites
For many years it was feared that Red Kites were in danger of extinction.
They can now be seen regularly in the skies above RoFawr and the
surrounding countryside. They can easily be distinguished from the
slightly smaller buzzards because their tails appear forked and
they are more animated in flight. |
|
Herons
There is a large heronry located in the woods about half a mile
from RoFawr, but the birds can be seen flying overhead or wading
along the shore of the river Towy. Please dont forget to bring
your camera!

Badgers
You will need to be quiet and patient to spot the badgers. Night-time
on the track through the woods on the way to RoFawr offers the best
chance of a sighting as they dash from the fields on the one side
to the woods on the other. |
|
Otters
Watching otters swim and hunt for fish is one of the
many delights of staying at RoFawr Luxury Holiday Cottages.
|
|
Deer
Wild deer are often best spotted in the very early hours. We can
point you in the right direction, but cannot guarantee you will
be able to see them, though part of the pleasure is the early morning
light and quiet of RoFawr. Some times, though, on sunny days you
may see them in the fields alongside the track enjoying the warmth
and sunshine, raising their heads quizzically to see who is passing
by. |
|
Wild
flowers
There are so many to choose from, and each day seems to reveal
more, from the woodland primroses, bluebells and wood anemones to
the early purple orchids in the banks. RoFawr is a site of Special
Scientific Interest due to the profusion of wildlife and flowers.
Every time of year has new delights. Why not join us to share this
beautiful part of Wales in our peaceful cottages?
